THE KEY TO MAKING DECISIONS

Welcome back sweet loves! I cannot believe August is already half over… Fashion month is right around the corner + I. am. NOT. prepared! Today, I am excited to talk the key to making decisions through the sweet power of WISDOM + sound COUNSEL!

Do you ever find yourself in a situation where you have not found yourself before + suddenly a gazillion questions rise up in your mind on WHAT to do + HOW to do it? DING DING DING DING! What are your first instincts in these situations? Do you rely on your very own thoughts + make impulsive decisions? Do you retreat to yourself in isolation + try to figure out everything on your own?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean NOT on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

We are called to not always lean on our own understanding when making decisions.  Instead, we are meant to utilize the knowledge given to us by God to be thoughtful, sound, + judicious in our decision making. Indeed, we may fail sometimes + make decisions that are not in our best interest, but that is OK because God works out His sovereign will not in spite of our choice but through them. AMEN! However, do you ever just wish you could save yourself the hurt of making a poor choice + instead pursue God’s will for you over your own? Mmmmmhmmm, that would be ME!

There are many aspects that lead to us making wise decisions, but today I want to talk to you about something that has profoundly impacted my thinking + decision making: seeking WISE COUNSEL!

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

You see, as smart as we think we are, sometimes we cannot rely on our own thoughts + feelings to direct us. EVEN when we think we have thought of every possible scenario that may play out from our decision, it is STILL so valuable to seek counsel on the matter. Sometimes life can be confusing, + we need one another to help lift or shift our eyes to a new perspective.

Wise counsel gives us a new perspective that we may not have been able to see on our own.

Wise Counsel reveals blind spots + areas that need heavy guidance.

Wise Counsel challenges our current thought process + allows us to break down the barriers of our limited thinking.

I have almost never known this to be more true than recently. God truly has used so many of my wise + beautiful friends to wake me up to realities that I may have never realized on my own accord. In these situations, it is so very key to be fully transparent + honest about both sides of the situation. We have to be extremely careful to not paint our own picture of the situation, but rather showcase the authentic, original piece of work [even if it may be rough around the edges]. When we are vulnerable + honest with true intentions to seek counsel, God can sweep in + speak to our hearts in ways you never thought possible.

“For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.” Proverbs 11:14

Friends, I cannot even tell you how much wise counsel has changed my life. Seek mentorship.  Seek wise counsel. Be vulnerable + honest about the situations at hand. God’s true will for YOU is sanctification… that your sin will loosen each day + not be bound to you. That you will draw nearer + nearer to Him through your actions + the state of your heart.

Also something to note! Please be  WEARY of who gets your ear. It is so so important to only accept wise counsel from people who will correct you in love when you are out of line. Seek individuals that will encourage you even if the route is SO hard. Be discerning with how much you tell people, + instead be picky on who you share the depth of the situation with. Discernment is always key!

So what has stopped you from seeking counsel before? What is truly holding you back? What if you took down those walls + stopped thinking you could do it all on your own? Maybe it’s time to all take the plunge to seek vulnerability + pursue heart changes, + ultimately be open to how God wants to speak to you through the wisdom of others.

*Giant thank you to all the women who have inspired the writing of this post through their fierce, true, sound, loving wisdom. I love you + Lord knows I couldn’t do it without you. *
